(Amman, Jordan, 13 June 2022): The Bank of Jordan announced its participation in the celebrations of the World Environment Day in June 2022, which focused on restoring the ecosystem, under this year's theme "We only have one Earth", and the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, with the theme "Rising up from Drought Together".
As part of its participation in both observances, the Bank of Jordan, in cooperation with the Jordan Friends of the Environment Society, implemented an initiative to plant and enhance greenery in the land of Al-Rahmeh Association for Animals in Jordan, located in the Zizia area, Giza District, where olive trees and lavender seedlings were planted with the participation of bank employees.
The initiative stems from the bank’s keenness to remain at the forefront of institutions supporting society and the environment and is also an embodiment of the bank's environmental management strategy based on reducing the impact of operations on the environment by adopting environmentally friendly work practices and mechanisms, providing green banking services and solutions, as well as implementing non-banking initiatives and programs with an environmental impact, including those related to raising environmental awareness.
The bank's environmental management strategy aims to contribute to supporting national efforts to preserve the environment and its resources by focusing on expanding the green spaces in the Kingdom, especially amid the pressing drought issues, to drive environmental sustainability as a pillar of sustainable economic and social growth, and a key to achieving the green economy.
The planting initiative is one of a series of environmental initiatives implemented by the Bank of Jordan, in partnership with a network of civil society organizations working towards goals aligning with the bank's environmental objectives which aim to participate actively in addressing challenges in ecosystems, biodiversity, and rehabilitation.
